Su di me

Storia breve

I have a BA in Translation Studies (Applied Interlingual Communication). I translate, write, proofread. Specialized in e-commerce product descriptions and tourism texts, I have I think I can deal with a lot more text types. Test me! When I'm not doing any of the above, or eating, you can find me on my yoga mat, or in the kitchen. If you can't find me, it probably means I don't want to be found.

Storia Lunga

Quite some time ago, I found out how writing was an exceptional way to explore the sense of life and express the complexity of the world I was seeing to let things out. I started journaling, writing my considerations about insightful happenings, feelings, experiences. Unlocking my imagination. I soon became addicted to it. I really enjoyed withdrawing with my laptop and write, write, write. Without any worry of being offensive, sappy, or - as my dad used to tell me whenever reading a piece of my writing - too introspective. The joy of expressing myself the way I wanted, whenever I wanted, dropping all the filters, was just so satisfying.

This is partly how I ended up studying Translation, of course after long-pondered considerations about the bright future of the absolutely non-competitive and ever growing translation industry and the utter failure and unreliability of Machine Translation technologies (ha-ha).

I imagined immersing myself in fragrant books, piles of dictionaries, in endless researches for the perfect word. University promptly showed me a couple of sad truths:

I graduated on a cold, windy and rainy day in November of 2017. For my thesis I wrote a translation proposal of the novel "Verteidigung der Missionarsstellung"  by Wolf Haas from German into Italian, thanks to which I realized I actually enjoyed translating literature. I had a lot of fun translating those crazy, super long German compound words, having to find ways to say almost the same thing in Italian. You can read an excerpt here.

So, here I am, with my fresh BA in Applied Interlingual Communication (Comunicazione Interlinguistica Applicata). Sounds complicated, huh? Now what?

In 2018 I started collaborating on different projects, doing e-commerce and tourism MTPE, content writing and proofreading, which made it possible for me to travel in the meantime. I headed to Asia, excited about the idea of digital nomading, exotic places, colorful cultures and spicy foods. And that's how my spiritual journey started. Am I digressing?

Since then I have been working in a lush green guesthouse in the Malaysian jungle, studying the ancient teachings of yoga and its modern and rather contortionist application, exploring the stunning underwater world in Thailand. All of this with a 40 liters greenish backpack on my shoulders. I learned a lot.

And now?

I am still studying, on my own and in my own way. I am still translating, constantly, just like I translate and interpret whatever message comes from outside. Aren't we all doing that in the end?

I am still writing, even right now, and reading, too.

I am travelling, in the sense that I realized you don't need to go to the antipodes and that the deepest truths can be right in front of you, wherever you are, if you just open those eyes and allow them to manifest themselves. Nevertheless, I believe that going far away to explore different cultures, if done with the right mindset, can be mind-blowing and incredibly useful for our personal evolution.

I have also been learning about website localization, copywriting, and translation for the publishing industry. I am currently contributing to open source projects such as WordPress, because I am still deeply in love with the romantic idea of translation for an outstanding successful communication among human beings. I care about our post-Babel future.

I try to find my balance, sometimes through yoga, sometimes through writing. Here you can read how yoga helped me not to go nuts. And by yoga I don't mean tight pants and beautiful belly buttons, although that is often how all of us yoga practitioners look like. I mean a lot more.

Oh, I've also been a nanny, waitress, receptionist.
I enjoy snowboarding, diving, yoga, cooking, and coconut oil.
